5 Northern California Summer Staycation Ideas

Here is some fun day trips in California. These will help you when planning summer staycation activities for Northern California. A staycation saves you money and helps you stretch your summer vacation funds. California Summer Staycation#1 – Napa Valley Wine Train Trip – California Summer Staycation Idea

There are several ways to see the famous Northern California Napa Valley wine region in the summer. You could take a self-drive tour of some of the better-known wineries, such as the Black Stallion, Buehler Vineyards or the Beaulieu Vineyard. If driving takes the fun out of your day trip try the Napa Valley Wine Train trip. It runs for 36 miles between St. Helen and Napa.

Another great wine related staycation day trip is the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley. The trolley visits 4 major wineries in the Sonoma Valley area. Various types of packages are available, some include wine tasting, some tickets are just for the tour and four stops.

If you and your family or friends are into hiking and backpacking, check out the hiking trails all around Lake Tahoe. My favorite trail is the Tahoe Rim Trail. On this trail, you can enter or leave at several locations. The best thing about this hiking trail is the amazing views of the Lake Tahoe itself.  Another very popular hiking trail is the Echo Lakes Trail, near Highway 50, which enables you to hike to both Lower Echo and Upper Echo Lakes.

Placerville is one of the original towns that sprung up out of nowhere, only because of the fast startup of the California good rush historical period.  There are several historic landmarks, the best known being the Bell Tower, used to call volunteer firefighters back as early as 1865.

One of the newest California summer staycation ideas is a visit to the Pinnacles National Park. Pinnacles is America’s newest National Park. Visitors who have some interest in birdwatching have a special treat when at Pinnacles. This is one of the few places with good opportunities to get clear views and glimpses of the California Condor.
